The Story

Spydaz didn't start as a backup company. It started in 2002, and it's been the same founder — learning what businesses really need from their technology — ever since. Here's the whole road that led to OctoVault.

  1. 2002

A web-design shop in North Carolina

It began with a DBA filed in North Carolina, offering web design at the tail end of the dot-com era — building sites for small businesses when "having a website" was still a leap of faith.

  2. 2004

A storefront in Deep River, Connecticut

A move to Connecticut, a new DBA, and a retail location in Deep River — part internet café, part on-site computer repair. It was a crash course in what people actually struggle with when their technology fails them.

  3. 2006

The storefront closes — the work continues

The retail location closed, but the relationships didn't. A core group of customers stuck around, because good help is hard to find and harder to leave.

  4. 2008

    Spydaz Computers LLC is incorporated

Incorporated in Connecticut, starting where it counted: IT services for friends, family, and the handful of small customers carried over from the storefront. The name on the door changed; the standard didn't.

  5. 2012

    Going managed

Spydaz shifted to a managed-services model — proactive monitoring and maintenance instead of waiting for things to break. Fewer emergencies, fewer surprises, technology that just keeps working.

  6. 2015

Backup & recovery — and a growing frustration

Backup and recovery joined the lineup, built on commercial backup products. Over the years we tried many of them. Every single one fell short somewhere that mattered — privacy, control, reliability, or plain honesty about your data.

  7. 2026

    Spydaz Holdings LLC & OctoVault

So we built the backup we always wanted. Spydaz Holdings LLC was formed to create and operate OctoVault — encrypted, zero-knowledge backup designed to fix everything we'd seen go wrong with the commercial tools. Your data, your key, your call.

How Spydaz is set up

Two companies, one founder.

If you look us up, you'll find two Spydaz entities — by design. Spydaz Computers LLC is the managed-IT services company that's served clients since 2008. Spydaz Holdings LLC owns and operates the OctoVault backup platform. Spydaz Computers is solely owned by its founder, who is also a partner in Spydaz Holdings — so the same person stands behind both, to the same standard.

The two work together by design. When Spydaz Holdings takes on managed-IT work, it hires Spydaz Computers to do it. When a Spydaz Computers engagement needs cloud storage, Computers hires Spydaz Holdings to provide it. One founder, clear lines.
